Verify Outlook Express Mail settings


  1. Launch Outlook Express
  2. Click Tools > Accounts
  3. In the Internet Accounts window, click Mail tab.
  4. Select your e-mail account, then click Properties


  5. In the General tab, verify the following settings:
    1. Mail Account: The name of the email account. For example, John's email
    2. Name: Your name
    3. Organization: Leave this field blank
    4. E-mail address: Your Bell Aliant e-mail address
    5. Reply Address: Leave this field blank
    6. Check Include this account when receiving mail or synchronizing
    7. Click Servers tab.


  6. On the Servers tab, verify the following settings
    1. My Incoming mail server is a ____ server' should be set as POP3 or IMAP for all Bell Aliant e-mail accounts; if it is not you will need to delete and create a new e-mail account.

      NOTE: E-mail accounts can be configured as IMAP or POP3 during the initial setup of the account.
    2. Incoming mail (POP3):
    3. Outgoing mail (SMTP):
    4. Account Name: Enter in complete e-mail address
    5. Password: Enter in your password
    6. Click Connection tab




  7. Make sure Always connect to this account using: is not checked. Click Advanced tab.


  8. On the Advanced tab, verify the following settings:
    1. Outgoing mail (SMTP) This should be 25
    2. Incoming mail (POP3) This should be 110 for POP3, and 143 for IMAP
    3. Verify This server required a secure connection (SSL) is not checked
    4. Server Timeouts should be set as 1 minute
    5. Verify Break apart messages larger than ___ is not checked
    6. Verify Leave a copy of messages on server is not checked
    7. Click OK


  9. Click Close.
  10. Restart your Computer.
