Introduction to Personal Web Pages

These steps will give you information on how to create your web site and transfer it to the personal web page server.
Steps:

  1. Activate your personal web space.

  2. Create your web site :

To create your web site you will need an HTML editor. This is a tool that acts like a word processor and programs the HTML in the background. It is as simple as writing a word document or email. Some HTML editors are available for free on http://www.tucows.com or http://www.downloads.com (Note: these sites are not affiliated with Aliant).

The easiest HTML Editors have WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) capabilities, the most popular ones are Microsoft Frontpage and Macromedia Dreamweaver.

For online help on how to create a webpage, please visit http://www.w3schools.com/html/html_intro.asp or www.learnthenet.com. (Note: these sites are not affiliated with Aliant).

    Tips:

    • The file name of the first page you want your visitors to see should be called index.htm or index.html.
    • HTML web page names are case sensitive. The rule of thumb is always use small (lower case) letters when saving your web pages that are destined for the Internet.
    • CGI and FrontPage extensions are not supported on your Bell Aliant personal web space.
    • Aliant does NOT offer telephone support on how to design your website or load your pages on to the server.

  3. Transfer your web site to the server.
