Optimize my Safari settings

To reset Safari to default settings

This also clears your history, cache, cookies, Downloads window and Google search entries. It also removes any saved usernames and passwords or other AutoFill data.

  1. In the Safari menu, choose Reset Safari.
  2. Check off the items you want to clear/remove.
  3. Click Reset.

To manually clear your cache:

  1. In the Safari menu, choose Empty Cache.
  2. Click Empty.   

To manually clear your history:

In the History menu, choose Clear History. This will not delete your bookmarks.

To manually clear your cookies:

  1. In the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Click the Privacy icon near the top of the window.
  3. Click the Details button.
  4. Select cookies from individual websites and then click Remove.
    Or
    Click Remove All to delete all cookies.
  5. Click Remove or Remove All to confirm.
  6. Click Done.

To set proxies:

  1. In the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Click the Advanced icon near the top of the window.
  3. Click Change Settings.
  4. Choose the Proxies tab.
  5. Check off Use Passive FTP Mode (PASV), near the bottom of the window.
  6. Click OK or Apply Now.
  7. Close the Preferences window.

To set the default web browser:

This is the browser that your computer will use to open links and html documents.

  1. In the Safari menu, choose Preferences.
  2. Click the General icon near the top of the window.
  3. Choose your default browser in the menu beside Default Web Browser.
  4. Close the Preferences window.

To show the address bar (if not already visible):

In the View menu, choose Show Toolbar.
