Outlook 2000 - Set up for the first time

If you'd like to send and receive Bell Aliant email using the Outlook 2000 email program, we can help you set it up. You simply need to add our email settings into your email program.

For quick reference, use the following checklist to configure Outlook 2000 for the first time. For more guidance, follow the detailed step-by-step instructions.  

What you need before you start

  • An installed copy of Outlook 2000
  • Your Bell Aliant email address and password
  • In order to setup your email program on your computer or mobile device, you will need the following email settings.

    Note: If you are have your own custom domain, you will need to use different settings for your custom domain (usually pop.customdomain.com or smtp.customdomain.com)

    Incoming mail settings:

     POP:  pop.bellaliant.com 
     Port:  110
     Authentication:  Username and password

    OR

     IMAP:  imap.bellaliant.com
     Port:  143
     Authentication:  Username (full email address) and password

    Outgoing mail settings:

     SMTP:

    smtpa.bellaliant.net

    Note: Effective July 29th, Bell Aliant has enabled SMTP Authentication to allow for your mobile devices to send email regardless of where you are located without the need to change your settings each time you travel.

     Port:  2225
     Authentication  Username and password

      

Checklist

  • Launch Outlook 2000, click Next
  • Select Internet Only, click Next
  • Enter account holder name, click Next
  • Enter your email address, click Next
  • Enter the Email Server Names information
  • Enter the Internet Mail Logon information
  • Select the correct connection type, click Next
  • Finish Outlook 2000 configuration
  • Add SMTP authentication settings

Follow these easy steps

  1. Launch the Outlook 2000 program.
  2. Click Next.

    Launch Outlook 2000, click Next

  3. Select Internet Only.
  4. Click Next.

    Select Internet Only, click Next

  5. Enter the name of the account holder (e.g. your name).
  6. Click Next.

    Enter account holder name, click Next

  7. Enter your email address.
  8. Click Next.

    Enter your email address, click Next

  9. Enter the following Email Server Names information and click Next:
    • The Incoming email server type should be set as POP3
    • Incoming mail (POP3 or IMAP) server: pop.bellaliant.com
    • Outgoing mail (SMTP) server: smtpa.bellaliant.net

  10. Enter the following Internet Mail Logon information and click Next:
    • Account name: Enter full email address ([email protected] )
    • Password: Enter your password.
    • Select Remember Password if you want Outlook to save your password.

  11. Select the correct connection type.
  12. Click Next.

  13. Click Finish.

    Click Finish

  14. Click Yes, if you wish to have Outlook 2000 as your default email application.

  15. Click Tools and select Accounts
  16. In the Accounts window, click the Mail tab.
  17. Click on the account you just created and Properties.
  18. Click on the Servers tab.
  19. Under Outgoing Mail Server, place a check beside My server requires authentication.
  20. Click on the Settings button.
  21. Select Use same settings as my incoming mail server.
  22. Click Apply.
  23. Click OK.

You have successfully configured Outlook 2000 for the first time!
