Fibe Recommended System Requirements

For optimum Internet speed, we recommend:

Hardware:

• Network interface controller (NIC):
  • a 100 Mbps NIC as a minimum for Fibe Internet speeds up to and including 80/30
  • a Gigabit Ethernet as a minimum for Fibe Internet speeds greater than 80/30
• Cabling:
  • CAT5e (short lengths only) as a minimum
  • CAT6 Ethernet (when CAT5e cabling is proven to cause slow speeds)
• Random access memory (RAM):
  • 1 GB as a minimum
  • 2 GB recommended
• Hard drive free space:
  • 500 MB as a minimum
  • 2 GB recommended
• Processor:
  • 1.5 GHz as a minimum;
  • 2 GHz recommended
•  Operating System:
  • Mac^TM OS version 10.6 or higher 
  • Windows^TM Vista or higher
  • The latest Microsoft OS service packs with updates and patches applied

Please note: to achieve optimum download speeds from Fibe Internet 200/30 to a PC, you need to use Windows 7 or higher with all updates and patches applied.

Software:

• Driver for your NIC – the latest version from your NIC driver manufacturer’s website

Please note: some firewall and anti-virus applications reduce the throughput of a computer. For speed tests these applications may need to be modified or disabled. Where possible, this should be avoided because of the security risk.

High-Speed Recommended System Requirements

• Available free hard disk space: 2 GB free space (at least 800 MB on hard system drive)

Software requirements:

• Net framework 3.5 (automatically installed with 2015 Internet Security Services if missing)
