Mac Mail (OS 10.7 and up) - Set up email (IMAP)

If you'd like to send and receive Bell Aliant email using the MacMail program, we can help you set it up. You simply need to add our email settings into your email program.

Follow these easy steps

  1. Launch Mac Mail.
  2. If the Welcome to Mail window does not open when you launch, click File / Add Account
  3. Enter the following:
    • Full Name: enter the name you want to display on your outgoing emails, i.e., John Smith
    • Email address: enter your Bell Aliant email address, i.e.,  [email protected]
    • Password: enter your Bell Aliant email password
  4. Click Continue
  5. On the Incoming Mail Server screen enter your Bell Aliant email server settings:
    • Account Type: IMAP
    • Description: Enter a description for your new account, i.e., John’s Account.
    • Incoming Mail Server: Enter imap.bellaliant.net (Note, this setting is good for all Bell Aliant email addresses including nbnet, sympatico, warp)
    • User name: Enter your Bell Aliant email address, i.e., [email protected]
    • Password: Enter your Bell Aliant email password
  6. Click Continue
  7. If there is a check mark in the Use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) box, click it to remove.
  8. Set Authentication to Password. 
  9. Click Continue.
  10. In the Outgoing Mail Server section enter your Bell Aliant email settings:
    • Description: Leave empty or enter a description for your new account, i.e., John’s Account.
    • Outgoing Mail Server: Enter smtpa.bellaliant.net (Note, this setting is good for all Bell Aliant email addresses including nbnet, sympatico, warp)
    • If there is no checkmark in the Use only this server: box, click it
    • If there is no checkmark in the Requires Authentication box, click it.
    • User Name: Enter your Bell Aliant email address, i.e., [email protected]
    • Password: Enter your Bell Aliant email password
  11. Click Continue.
  12. On the Account Summary screen confirm your account information and click Create.
  13. Next, you need to change your Port information. 
  14. Click Mail and Preferences.
  15. Click Accounts and select  the new account you just created.
  16. Click the Server Settings button.
  17. In the SMTP Server Options window, change the Server Port: to 2225
  18. Click OK.
