Fibe recommended system requirements

For optimum Internet speed, we recommend:

Hardware:

  • Network interface controller (NIC):
    • a 100 Mbps NIC as a minimum for Fibe Internet speeds 20/15 and 50/30
  • Cabling:
    • CAT5e (short lengths only) as a minimum
    • CAT6 Ethernet (when CAT5e cabling is proven to cause slow speeds)
  • Random access memory (RAM):
    • 1 GB as a minimum
    • 2 GB recommended
  • Hard drive free space:
    • 500 MB as a minimum
    • 2 GB recommended
  • Processor:
    • 1.5 GHz as a minimum;
    • 2 GHz recommended

Operating System:

  • WindowsTM Vista / 7 or MacTM OS version 10.4 or higher
  • The latest Microsoft OS service packs with updates and patches applied

Software:

  • Driver for your NIC – the latest version from your NIC driver manufacturer’s website

Please note: some firewall and anti-virus applications reduce the throughput of a computer. For speed tests these applications may need to be modified or disabled. Where possible, this should be avoided because of the security risk.
